Natixis HKFC Bulls and Sequins both have byes to the semi-finals due to the way their leagues were configured.

Men’s Premiership

Natixis HKFC Club finished the league campaign off with a resounding win against Tigers by 37 points to 8 and left Kings Park wondering why they hadn’t shown that spirit and intent the week before against Kowloon.  Tries came from Josh Afu in the first half and in the second half Nate De-Thierry before one from Max Page and two identical intercept tries from Jevon Groves.

Natixis HKFC Head Coach, Phil Bailey, commented ‘even though the game was a dead rubber we wanted to win, but more importantly show the desire that was lacking the week before.  Tigers comfortably had more of the game than us in the first half but our defence held firm and then we snatched the try through Josh which put us in front at half time.  The final score wasn’t a fair reflection on the effort Tigers put in but we’ll take that as we needed a confidence booster before HKCC in the quarter finals of the Grand Champs.’

Club now play HKCC on Saturday in the quarter finals and name the following squad:

Unfortunately centre lost Lloyd Jones pulled his groin last week and is out for the rest of the season.  Also injured this week is Marcus Slade with concussion.

Bailey commented on his selection ‘having made seven changes, overall I was pleased with the energy the guys who came in gave and thus they are rewarded by keeping their places.  Hoody was excellent last week and it shows what we’ve missed there.  It’s also good to have Higgo back as he brings so much physicality and energy to us.  Jevon slots back into the starting team, again we’ve missed his abilities and leadership since he broke his hand in the last fixture against HKCC after Christmas.’

‘In terms of Cricket Club they had a really poor result against Valley last week but having analysed the game it’s pretty clear they were seeing out the league campaign and had one eye on the quarter final against us.  All our games with them this season have been close and I doubt it will be any different tomorrow, but we need to come out on top as there are no second chances for the remainder of the season.’

National League One

The Dragons had a disappointing result against Valley last weekend losing 14-7 and thus losing the league.  While the team has been used as a development tool to expose our young academy players to as higher level of rugby as possible we still felt we had enough quality in the squad to win the league and this fixture.  Attentions now however turn to the GC’s.  The Dragons have Gai Wu tomorrow who finished bottom of NL1 but have a number of their import players back and fit for this quarter final clash.

National League Two

Natixis HKFC Select beat Discovery Bay last week 30-18.  There were a few standout performances most notably from backrow Simon Bourke, centre John Oven but man of the match went to outside half Matt Smith.  Select who had already secured second place in NL2  will be hoping Smith can continue with such an accomplished performance through the GC’s.  They play Valley in the quarter finals who finished bottom but one.

Natixis HKFC Select Head Coach, Tony George has had a settled squad all season so there is little change.  He has however decided to start with James Thomson at hooker hoping his greater scrummaging prowess will compensate for the more mobile props either side of him.

Natixis HKFC Expendables endured a heavy loss to Tigers last week 5-66 and finished third in NL5.  They play Kowloon in the quarter finals and delay naming their squad until the morning.
